Many believe that school uniforms can reduce bullying in schools. This is somewhat true, because bullies cannot pick on you because of the clothing you are wearing, because they are wearing the same thing. It can also occasionally make students feel more equal to each other, because there are no clothing competitions. However this is not always the case, According to a Shrine Middle School student, despite the clothing similarities, students can still show off their wealth in sections such as jewelry, shoes and sweatshirts, making the case that school uniforms eliminate clothing competitions in schools, false. A study published in The Journal of Education Research by David L. Brunsma, of the University of Alabama, and Kerry A. Rockquemore, of the University of Notre Dame, states "The findings indicate that student uniforms have no direct effect on substance use, behavioral problems, or attendance" meaning, that despite beliefs, school uniforms do not reduce bullying, drug use, or behavioral problems in students (quoted in wikipedia.org - School Uniforms 1). Students also can make fun of other students in more ways than just clothing. Students at uniformed schools can bully other students by making fun of hair, smarter people, religion/beliefs, and your relationships with others. So, despite what some may believe about school uniforms eliminate bullying in schools, there will always be bullying and something to make fun of, about another person.
