School uniforms are a dress code that requires students to wear a standard consistent outfit to school. They became popular in 1964 and are found in most primary and secondary schools. School uniforms were put into effect to eliminate bullying, to instill discipline and reduce distractions in schools. School uniforms should be enforced in all types of schools because it saves parents money, it makes school safer, and it helps less fortunate kids fit in with the crowd.
School uniforms were first used in a charity school in England around the 16th century. Later in the 19 century, England started to use them in public schools also. School uniforms are important because they "apparently also save students from putting their fashion tastes before their learning requirements. When they don’t have to spend time wondering what to wear and how to make a fashion statement, they can devote more time to getting an education. Theoretically, that is." (Panse) “Wearing the same type of dress reduces social snobbery and peer pressure in educational institutions. It is also supposed to reduce incidents of bullying and theft.” (Panse) School uniforms can solve many problems at school, which is why they should be enforces.
